To apply the Platinum Rule, you'll need to get to know each person on your team as individuals — their work
style and preferences, their strengths and weaknesses, their short-term and long-term goals. Here are some
questions designed to help you get to know them better. This process of discovery calls for being genuinely
interested in them and curious to find out what's on their minds. When you pose these questions, really listen to
what they have to say and resist the impulse to justify, explain or argue. You want to find out what things are like
from their perspective.
What do you feel is going well for you? What would make things better for you here?
What would you like to do more of? Less of?
What do you think your strengths are? Your development needs?
What are your goals for your current role? What would you like to achieve this year?
What are your long-term goals? Are there any new skills you want to learn?
How often would you like to meet with me to discuss your progress?
Is there anything else you want to talk about that might help us work well together?
