10 THINGS EVERY NEW MANAGER NEEDS TO KNOW It's not easy dealing with someone who runs hot one day and cold the next, someone who is a sweetheart in the morning and a bear that afternoon. When a manager's behavior is changeable and unpredictable, it throws people off-balance. It makes them suspicious and cautious. It impedes communication and wrecks morale. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 8 If you tend toward mood swings, your team members are likely thinking, "Who are you this time?" or "Who am I dealing with today?" It puts unnecessary pressure on them to walk on eggshells around you for fear that they might set you off. It's tough on them, but it's tough on you too. You may not be getting what you need to do your job well. Your team may hold back on discussing important matters with you because they don't know how you'll respond. Here are four things to remember that will help ensure you remain approachable to your team and colleagues: 4 4 BE CONSISTENT IN YOUR MANAGEMENT STYLE Work on becoming consistent and predictable in your management style. Become more aware of your mood swings and the effect they have on others. Manage your emotions in the moment.
